On May 20, 2014, the requirements for .AU domains were changed as follows:
For .COM.AU, NET.AU, .ORG.AU and .ASN.AU:
- Registrant Name is now required
- Registrant ID Type is now required and you must submit a valid ABN or ACN number
- Registrant ABN and ACN numbers will be verified against the Registrant Name, otherwise the order will be declined
- Eligibility Name is now required
- Eligibility Type & ID is now required
For ID.AU:
- Registrant Name is now required
- Registrant ID and Type are optional
- Eligibility Type is now required
Eligibility Type
The Eligibility Type that you can choose depends on the second level domain that you are registering. For example, when you register a .ID.AU domain, the only available eligibility type is Citizen/Resident; if you register an ASN.AU domain the available eligibility types are Charity, Club, Incorporated Association, non-profit Organization, and Trade Union; and if you register a .COM.AU domain, the available eligibility types are Company, Partnership, Pending TM Owner, Registered Business, Sole Trader, and Trademark Owner.
The following Eligibility Types have been eliminated: Commercial Statutory Body, Industry Body, National Body, Political Party, Religious/Church Group, and Research Organization.
Policy Reason
This is a new requirement. For .COM.AU, NET.AU, .ASN.AU, .ID.AU and .ORG.AU you must supply a policy reason. One of these two reasons must be specified:
- 1—Exactly matches the acronym or abbreviation of the registrant's company or trading name, organization or association name or trademark
- 2—Connected closely and substantially to the registrant
All of these changes are reflected in the Control Panel and in the API.
For information about the allowed parameters and values for .AU in the API, refer to the ".AU au_registrant_info" section of the API guide.
